Love it. People don't quite seem to understand that this movie is? meant to be Brokeback Mountain for atheists. Of course it carries a slap at religion with it, it has to. Probably why the movie doesn't get many good reviews, it's hard to promote a film that primarily disagrees with you. The best they can really come up with is that it's "talky". Well, fuck them. I was supportive of Gavin and Shana's relationship since the beginning. Gavin was not an a*hole, if anything, Joe was. When Shana asked him "What about my education?" He told her "When god calls, we need to listen." He was the type of husband that was ideal for traditional gender roles in the 1950's, that bs concept of "Men work, and are the voice and leader of? the home, women are homemakers and subservient. He was so ridiculously clingy and jealous.

Gavin's relationship with Shana, was completely understandable. Her marriage to Joe, was nothing more than "Stockholm Syndrome". She found Gavin, and? fell in love with him. Joe got jealous, and used The Bible, (and his clearly extremist views to justify his actions.) Yes, the film is a cut-out description, but it is accurate for quite a few people. There are extremists in all walks, Gavin's atheism became secondary to his love for Shana. Joe's religious devotion and bigotry was his downfall.

Matthew Chapman's "The Ledge" should not be considered a landmark movie for the atheist movement in any way. Actually, I do not think there will ever be a landmark atheist movie. This is simply because the common public understands that belief in a god ultimately is not the product of? dramatic theological persuasion but of authentic faith. this record really was ahead of its time because it was very experimental and creative. At the time rock music all sounded pretty much the same, there wasn't a lot of difference in the music like there is now. It has changed a lot where now its way more open and experimental, but not at that time, and so it showed their true genius and creativity. Simple zany tune - but so catchy/so good. And there's that cool "tinny" sound. Like making a one? take/cheap sounding demo in a tiled bathroom (but I mean that with no disrespect at all - because it was intentional). Tusk was a time to be a lot more experimental - rather than doing the same exact thing over again (AKA Rumors). When I first heard 0:46 - 0:47 (years ago) I was like wow they went far with the zanniness (in the vocals/ caught me off guard) and yet it was so right for the song.

Have to say I agree. I actually felt uncomfortable watching Hunnam's scenes, as if I was in the room with him having to deal with this really awkward guy. This review didn't mention the message of the film which is basically that religion to an extreme? degree can be very bad, and though it gets preachy at times it does pretty well overall with that. What got me was the ending which (although predictable) was extremely emotional, and possibly Hunnam's only good scene.

Charlie hunnam was THE BEST ACTOR in the film and i'm not even a? fanboy!! seriously i recommend this movie to ANYONE that isn't easily offended or at least has an open mind. I've got this "Crash" feel from the movie. Or? maybe it's all because of the guy who played the cop. Overall, it wasn't such a bad movie, and I wouldn't say that acting was the biggest problem, but yes, the whole thing wasn't connecting very well and by the end was beginning to fall apart. Also, as an atheist, I was quite glad someone finally said things that needed to be said to American public from the big screen.

Matthew Chapman's "The Ledge" should not be considered a landmark movie for the atheist movement in any way. Actually, I do not think there will ever be a landmark atheist movie. This is simply because the common? public understands that belief in a god ultimately is not the product of dramatic theological persuasion but of authentic faith. Trying to sway people towards atheism with a one-sided script, such as in "The Ledge", is contrived and comes across as ridiculous to the audience.
