It was an influence, and I love all the bands (except for babyshambles... never heard of them) you listed. Speaking personally: I've heard? some GREAT stuff from a lot of stoners, but, I've heard more than a heap of shit from stoners as well. Maybe it's the type of drug, but I think it's more about the person taking them... And either way, I enjoy it sober anyways. Cheers :)

That is true, look at babyshambles for example. I do believe that the best music was caused by drugs though, The Beatles, the Doors, the? Who, Pink Floyd, All that era's best were in my opinion helped by drugs. Same story with the nineties, Acid House, techno, mainstream electronic bands like the Chemical bro's, Orbital, Underworld even stuff like madchester, the Stone Roses and Oasis. The 80's appear to be lacking but Coke was the drug of choice, turns you into a wanker.

I saw him at Just for Laughs in 1991/2 (I think) That was where he really started to hit his stride and shook off the 80's. I haven't said that it isn't useful, but it's a personal choice. Some extremely talented individuals used them, and others didn't. In my experience, it's a mixed bag when an artist uses them. Sometimes the outcome is great, from? my experience, it usually doesn't improve anything and addiction usually replaces any talent that was there. Few get out unscathed.

Yeah? they were available, and look what happened to those who were talented who took it before the fifties, they wrote poetry, symphonies and novels and made some fantastic art. Case in point, Coleridge, Blake, Wilde, Burroghs, Van Gogh and Kerouac. After the fifties drugs became widespread and good music followed because of it. I can already see that I'm not going to win you over to the pro drugs argument but you have to admit that because of drugs music did get a LOT better.

Ah ha.. but of course you're wrong. Snuff/marijuana/opium... etc. All available, never wrote a song on their own. Also, if you think music got better because of drugs, I invite you to listen to horrible? bands that never got a foot off the ground because they were too gone to actually put together something that approximated music. And, I've seen Bill Hicks live, when he sucked. After he kicked alcohol and stopped getting stoned hourly (ie after Houston/LA), he got a LOT better.

Bullshit. Apart from some classical music, music was completely different before the 50's, hardly any thought provocation to say the least. With the odd exception music has only progressed since the 50's BECAUSE OF DRUGS. Drug's became widespread and? music changed for the better because of it. Go and watch some Bill Hicks, he explains the relationship much better than I can. Then go and try acid, you never know, you might even enjoy yourself.

I am a grown man who grew up listening to the Beatles. I waited in excited anticipation for the next album to come out. I was NEVER dissappointed. Every song was great. There was never a bad song. The beatles didn't really write music to dance to but told stories about things that were currently in their lives. This song "In My Life" which? I believe was primarily written by John Lennon still brings tears to my eyes. John, Paul, Ringo and George were the perfect combination of musicians.
